When Nazi Germany occupied Norway and seized that country’s cattle, poultry, dairy, and fish industry to feed the German army during World War II, Norway was forced vegetarian. The result was huge drop in cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other related terminal illness in Norway. Like wise our existential immunity to non- communicable flood of rapid runaway climate change related blowback of diseases may force us to be Vegan/Herbivores.
The global fundamental fetters of misappropriation and substitution of Buddhist moral discipline of first and fifth cosmic ethical laws (Silas) are defined as being of two kinds: mistaken conception and misplaced affections with healing body of food and herbs. There is no significant difference in illness, obesity, mobility, morbidity, and mortality to any given culture or nations in the world today. The fundamental mistaken conception and misplaced affection on food is marked by our cultural critical unstable relationship to energy and health as they reconfigure our experience of culture, illness and epidemiology.
We cannot help but assimilate our approach to Buddhist ethical practice into our preexisting past emotional psychological patterns and personality, some of which are inevitably maladaptive. Assimilation is inevitable, yet it unavoidably creates sometimes irreversible faulty blowback of conditionality not only in our work, relationships but also the way we understand, practice, and experience Buddhist teaching to balance with complex simple nature. Our entrenched cultural, characterlogical, short-coming, defenses and flaws can remain untouched unless our we are forced to change by imminent climate countdown.
Inappropriate inflammatory dietary habits contributes *** virtually increased risk for all cancer, diabetes, coronary heart disease, kidney, asthma, emphysema, multiple sclerosis, rheumatic fever, rheumatoid arthritis, stress, anxiety, depression and other systemic dysfunction. The most humble dimension of the diet was largely ignored until a surgeon, Dr. Dennis Burkitt, demonstrated the value of fiber, not only to protect against cancer but for dealing with a whole range of healing problems.
“Vegetarian diets based on grains, vegetables, herbs, fruits, nuts, seeds, and legumes are the most powerful diets for health, but their power erodes if milk, cheese, other dairy by products and refined food like sugar, nicotine, alcohol, coffee, wine, beer, are added. Some studies of lacto-ova-vegetarians have found that their cancer risk is almost as high as the meat eaters”. (“Four Food For Life” by Dr. Neil Barnard). April 1991, when the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine proposed the New Four Food Groups of Grains, Legumes, Vegetables and Fruits, Dr. Burkitt traveled to Washington to support the plan. “Physicians have been very busy using surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, dialysis, and other treatments to mop up the flood of disease, when the key is to stop the flood at its source: “diet” Dr. Burkitt said. “Four Food for Life” Dr. Neil Barnard.
Buddha said to Ananda “Sentient being cannot hope to attain Buddha-hood by means of indecent food. How can they hope to attain the wonderful experience of Samadhi out of licentious? If the source is indecent, the outcome will be indecent; there will never be a return to the never ending recurrence of sickness and suffering. If one is trying to practice dhyana (meditation) and still eating meat or any byproduct from that center of suffering he would be like a man closing his ears and shouting loudly and then asserting he heard nothing. The more one conceal things, the more apparent they become. Pure and earnest bhikshus, when walking a narrow path, will never so much as tread on the growing grass besides the path. How can a bhikkshu who hopes to become a deliverer of others, himself be living on the flesh or milk of other sentient beings?”
